The film is set in the near future and follows Teresa (Barbara Colen) back to her home in Bacurau, a town in a semi-dark Brazilian semicircle to attend her grandmother’s funeral. Upon arrival, Teresa immediately saw signs that Bacurau was in a predicament. Basic services are lacking, cellphone coverage is getting closer, drinking water supply is broken and trucks carrying drinking water are full of bullet holes. It soon became clear that the corrupt government had abandoned the village completely: not only had Bacurau been wiped off the map, but its citizens had also been attacked. As close administrators, the villagers had to prepare organized resistance to avoid further damage.
